A delegation from the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), comprising 13 officers representing Sri Lanka’s tri-services, together with foreign military officers, visited the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Cairo on 01 August 2026, as part of their international collaborative study tour to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Headed by Brigadier Dananjaya Senarath, the delegation undertook a 14-day study programme in Egypt from 27 July to 09 August 2026. During the programme, the delegation visited several defence establishments, government and academic institutions, and participated in discussions, professional engagements and training briefings.
Welcoming the delegation to the Embassy, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Egypt Sisira Senavirathne briefed the delegation on the longstanding and cordial relations between Sri Lanka and Egypt. He highlighted the importance of further strengthening bilateral defence cooperation through professional exchanges, training opportunities, institutional collaboration and defence diplomacy initiatives. He noted that study programmes of this nature provide valuable opportunities to enhance professional and institutional engagement and further strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries.
Ambassador Sisira Senavirathne expressed appreciation to the Government of Egypt, particularly the Egyptian Ministry of Defence, for hosting the Sri Lankan defence delegation, arranging a comprehensive study programme and extending warm hospitality throughout their stay. Second Secretary of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Cairo Darshika Dasanayake presented a briefing to the DSCSC delegation on bilateral relations and cooperation across various fields.
Following the briefing, the visiting delegation was hosted to dinner at the Sri Lanka Residence.
