Sri Lanka was represented at the V International Transport Summit in Moscow by the Colombo Municipal Council. A two-member delegation, comprising Member of the Colombo Municipal Council, Hamza Sithi Nabila, and Technical Director, Department of Road Traffic Design and Road Safety of the Colombo Municipal Council, Nirodhani Pathiraja, participated in the Summit and associated events.

The Summit, one of Russia’s leading international gatherings in the transport sector, brought together 200 foreign delegates from 43 countries, including India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. At the opening ceremony, Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, presented the Moscow Transport Development Strategy through 2030, highlighting approaches to developing efficient, sustainable and technologically advanced urban transport systems.

The Summit provided Sri Lanka with an opportunity to engage with cities and countries facing similar urban mobility challenges, including congestion management and digital transport infrastructure. During the visit, the Colombo Municipal Council and the Moscow Government signed a Joint Statement on developing cooperation in the transport sector.

In addition, Technical Director, Department of Road Traffic Design and Road Safety of the Colombo Municipal Council, Nirodhani Pathiraja, participated in discussions on the modern organisation of parking facilities.

Along with the Colombo Municipal Council delegation, Counsellor of the Embassy, Mihiravi Dissanayake, and Interpreter of the Embassy, Olessya Romanova, participated in the discussions.

Sri Lanka’s participation in the Summit provided an opportunity to strengthen international cooperation and exchange experiences on efficient, sustainable and digitally enabled urban transport solutions.
