The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Dhaka successfully facilitated the safe repatriation of two Sri Lankan fishermen who had been rescued by the authorities of Bangladesh.
The two fishermen had been rescued by the Bangladesh authorities in Bangladesh’s territorial waters after their fishing vessel, I-Day-0122 KMN, became distressed and drifted into the area.
The fishermen arrived safely at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, on FitsAir Flight No. 8D912.
The repatriation was made possible through coordinated efforts undertaken via diplomatic channels involving the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka, the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of Sri Lanka and the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Dhaka.
The High Commission of Sri Lanka expressed its sincere appreciation to the relevant authorities of Bangladesh for their cooperation, humanitarian assistance and valuable support in facilitating the safe repatriation of the two Sri Lankan fishermen.
