Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates Dr. Arusha Cooray becomes First Resident Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Arusha Cooray has become the first Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The Director General of IRENA, Francesco La Camera, received the Credentials of Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Arusha Cooray, as the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to IRENA on 30 June 2026, at the Headquarters of IRENA in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi.

The Director General of IRENA congratulated the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to IRENA on her appointment, and commended Sri Lanka’s commitment to engaging an active representative to work closely with IRENA.

Ambassador Cooray reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to advancing renewable energy and achieving sustainability.

The Ambassador also invited the Director General of IRENA to undertake an official visit to               Sri Lanka and meet the Minister of Energy, to further support IRENA led initiatives through enhanced data collaboration and sharing of technical expertise between IRENA and Sri Lanka.

The Ambassador further mentioned ongoing renewable energy projects in Sri Lanka and sought the support of IRENA in further supporting these initiatives. The Director General assured his fullest support for the initiates to be taken by Sri Lanka.
