The Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe attended a temporary ordination ceremony of thirty-three Sri Lankan devotees who entered the Buddhist monkhood to undertake intensive meditation training under the Guru Samadhi programme, following the teachings of His Eminence Somdej Phra Yanavajirodom.

The ordination ceremony was held at Wat Thammamongkol (Royal Monastery) in Bangkok, in the presence of senior members of the Thai Sangha, devotees, and well-wishers. The Ambassador's participation reflected the longstanding religious and cultural bonds between Sri Lanka and Thailand, founded on the shared heritage of Theravada Buddhism.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Edirisinghe commended the participants for embarking on this noble spiritual journey and expressed her appreciation for the continued support extended by the Thai Buddhist clergy in fostering meditation practice and Buddhist education for Sri Lankan devotees. She noted that such initiatives further strengthen the centuries-old spiritual ties and people-to-people connections between the two countries.

Following the ordination ceremony, the newly ordained monks departed for Wat Pa Somdej Phra Yanavajirodom in Chiang Mai Province, where they will undertake an intensive programme of meditation and monastic training for a period of one and a half months under the guidance of experienced meditation masters.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka congratulates the thirty-three participants on their ordination and wishes them every success in their spiritual endeavour. The Embassy also conveys its sincere appreciation to the venerable members of the Thai Sangha and the organizers of the Guru Samadhi programme for their dedication to promoting Buddhist teachings and strengthening the enduring religious friendship between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
