The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Cairo participated in the Arab–Asian Trade and Investment Forum, organized by the Arab Women Investors Union under the theme "Egypt and Sri Lanka Towards a Strategic Partnership and Promising Opportunities," on 7 July 2026 at the Headquarters of the Arab Women Investors Union in Cairo.

The forum brought together more than 60 participants, including investors, business leaders, representatives of chambers of commerce, government officials, media personnel, and members of the Arab Women Investors Union engaged in the trade and investment sectors.

The event served as an important platform to showcase Sri Lanka's trade and investment opportunities, foster collaboration between the business communities of Sri Lanka and Egypt, and promote Sri Lanka Expo 2027 among Egyptian investors and business entities. A special presentation highlighting Sri Lanka Expo 2027, scheduled to be held in Colombo from 14 to 17 January 2027, was delivered by Chairman of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, Mangala Wijesinghe while the Executive Director of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, Priyanka Samaraweera delivered a presentation outlining Sri Lanka's investment profile and the diverse opportunities available for foreign direct investment across key sectors.

President of the Arab Women Investors Union, Dr. Hoda Yassa introduced the 29th Edition of the Investment Summit on Arab–African Investments and International Cooperation, which is scheduled to be held in Luxor from 18 to 22 October 2026. She emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration and strategic partnerships between the trade and investment sectors of Sri Lanka and Egypt. Dr. Yassa also conveyed the Arab Women Investors Union's full support for Sri Lanka Expo 2027 and reaffirmed its commitment to encouraging the participation of Egyptian investors and business communities in the event.

Addressing the forum, Ambassador Sisira Senavirathne highlighted the significant trade and investment opportunities available in Sri Lanka and emphasized the strong potential for expanding partnerships and economic collaboration between Sri Lanka and Egypt. The Ambassador noted that Sri Lanka, as one of the most open and liberalized economies in South Asia, continues to pursue an export-oriented economic strategy while actively promoting foreign direct investment as a key driver of sustainable economic growth.

The Ambassador invited Egyptian investors and members of the business community, particularly those affiliated with the Arab Women Investors Union, to visit Sri Lanka and explore the country's diverse trade and investment opportunities across a wide range of sectors. He further underscored Sri Lanka's strategic position in global trade, supported by its advantageous geographic location along one of the world's busiest maritime routes, a highly skilled workforce, a favorable business environment, excellent quality of life, and strong regional and international connectivity, making the country a vital gateway between the East and the West.
