A Sri Lankan delegation has arrived at the United Nations Office at Nairobi to participate in the Informal In-Person Meeting of Heads of Delegation (HODs) to the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) on Plastic Pollution, taking place from Monday 29 June to Friday 3 July 2026.

The Sri Lankan delegation is led by Secretary to the Ministry of Environment, K.R. Uduwawala, along with Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Kenya, Ruvini De Silva and senior officials from the Ministry of Environment and the Central Environmental Authority.

The objective of this informal HODs meeting is to provide an opportunity for an exchange of views among Members of the Committee in preparation for the fourth part of the resumed fifth session of the INC (INC 5.4). This informal meeting seeks to provide a platform for discussions on possible ways forward and is therefore not a decision-making meeting.

As an island nation intensely impacted by marine plastic pollution and the overarching triple planetary crisis, Sri Lanka remains steadfastly committed to working constructively with the INC Chair and fellow global delegations to transform shared environmental ambitions into an impactful, binding reality.
