Under the guidance of Consul General Dulmith Waruna and with the dedicated support of the officers of the Consulate General, an almsgiving ceremony was held at the Sri Lanka Consulate General in Milan on 13 June 2026 for Buddhist monks residing in Northern Italy. The staff of the Consulate General and their families participated in the almsgiving, offering dana and engaging in religious observances with great devotion.
The meritorious event brought together 23 Buddhist monks from nine temples across the region namely, Milano International Buddhist Centre, Milano Dhamma Nikethanaya, Milano Mahamewna Asapuwa, Padova Samma Sathi Temple, Verona Buddhist Temple, Cinicello Girimananda Temple, Genova Sambudu Viharaya and Brescia Buddhist Temple.
The almsgiving was conducted under the patronage of Chief Incumbent of the Milano International Buddhist Centre and Chief Sanghanayaka of Italy, Most Venerable Vipulasiri Thero, who led the religious proceedings with Buddha Pooja, Dhamma sermons, and blessings.
The main objectives of this meritorious act were commemorating Vesak, invoking blessings on the officers of the Consulate General for their service and wellbeing, transferring merits to the departed relatives of the Consulate General officers, invoking blessings on the Venerable monks who graced the occasion and blessing all Sri Lankans residing in Northern Italy for peace, prosperity, and unity.
Consul General Dulmith Waruna expressed his gratitude to all participating temples for their presence. He also commended the Consulate staff for their devotion and teamwork in organizing the event.
