The newly appointed Representative of Sri Lanka to the State of Palestine, Mohamed Farook Mohamed Fawzer, presented his Letters of Credence to President Mahmoud Abbas at the Presidential Palace in Ramallah yesterday, 23 June 2026.
Upon his arrival at the Presidential Palace, Representative Fawzer was accorded ceremonial honours, including a Guard of Honour, followed by the formal presentation of credentials and an audience with President Abbas.
During the audience with President Abbas following the formal ceremony, the new Representative conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of His Excellency Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Sri Lanka and Palestine.
The new Representative of Sri Lanka underscored the historic and enduring ties between the two countries, founded on mutual respect, solidarity, and shared values. He reiterated Sri Lanka’s unwavering support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and reaffirmed the Government of Sri Lanka’s consistent support for the early implementation of the UN General Assembly resolutions regarding a two-state solution on the basis of the 1967 borders.
President Abbas welcomed the new Representative, expressed gratitude for Sri Lanka’s long-standing solidarity, and expressed confidence that the bilateral relations will grow further during Representative Fawzer's tenure.
In response, Representative Fawzer pledged to translate this political solidarity into tangible cooperation, with a view to enhancing institutional, cultural, and people-to-people contacts for the benefit of both nations.
