The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism hosted a Vesak Day Festival on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, at the Ministry premises with the participation of the Ministry staff and their families. The event was ceremonially inaugurated by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Arun Hemachandra. The celebration was organized in keeping with the spirit and values of Vesak, commemorating the Birth, Enlightenment, and Passing of Lord Buddha.

The programme included a Maha Sanghika Dharma Deshana by Ven. Prof. Dr. Ittademaliye Indasara Thero and the lighting of Vesak buckets and lanterns within the Ministry premises, followed by a Dansala organized in the true spirit of Dana (giving), sharing and compassion, which are central to the teachings of Lord Buddha. The Ministry staff members representing different religions and ethnic communities participated in the Dansala reflecting the values of harmony, unity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence deeply rooted in the Sri Lankan society.

The Vesak Day Festival also provided an opportunity for the staff of the Ministry and their families to come together in the spirit of peace, compassion, and unity, which are universal values upheld in the teachings of Lord Buddha.
