A live screening of the Kandy Esala Perahera 2026 was held on 27 August 2026 at the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple in Singapore.

The event was attended by members of the Venerable Maha Sangha, Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, Buddhist devotees and members of the Sri Lankan community in Singapore. Distinguished attendees included the Ambassadors of Japan, Mongolia and Myanmar, as well as representatives of the diplomatic missions of India, Pakistan, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Thailand and Lao PDR.

The programme commenced with a welcome for the guests, followed by refreshments. A brief religious observance was conducted by the Venerable Maha Sangha, after which the Ambassadors and other distinguished guests offered lotus flowers and lamps at the sacred Bodhi tree. The guests were then ceremonially ushered into the main hall in a procession featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancers and drummers.

Delivering the welcome remarks, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore, Senarath Dissanayake, highlighted the profound cultural, religious and historical significance of the Kandy Esala Perahera and its enduring place among Sri Lanka’s most revered traditions. Brief remarks were also delivered by the President of the Singapore Sinhala Buddhist Association, Nimal Dharmasiriwardhane.

The guests witnessed, via live screening, the auspicious commencement of the Kandy Esala Perahera at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, followed by the procession through the streets of Kandy.

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, organised the event with the generous assistance of the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple, Singapore.
