The Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism organized a Guest Talk on ‘Building a Culture of Integrity’ for Ministry staff on Thursday 10th September 2026. The Talk was delivered by Senior Lecturer at Kelaniya University Senior Lecturer, Department of Human Resource Management, at the University of Kelaniya.
The Guest Talk was a continuation of the activities undertaken by the IAU of the Ministry in conjunction with the National Integrity Week initiative in July 2026 by the Government, towards creating a culture of integrity among the public service.
Delivering the welcome remarks, Ministry Secretary Aruni Ranaraja highlighted that true integrity meant ‘doing the right thing in the right way’, even when no one is watching. She underscored the progress achieved by the IAU since its inception in April 2025, and the message that must be conveyed to the public.
Senior Lecturer Tharindu Weerasinghe underlined the key elements of the Anti-Corruption Act of 2023, which was the basis for the internal affairs units being formed. He elaborated on the importance of prevention of bribery and corruption with attractive examples and anecdotes keeping the audience engaged and attentive.
The Talk provided a broad overview to the Ministry staff, of the work carried out by the IAU and the importance of knowledge and prevention in reducing the incidence of bribery and corruption.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassadors and High Commissioners as well as overseas Mission staff also joined in online.
