Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jordan Commemorates Poson 2026

In commemoration of Poson Poya, the day that Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka by Arahat Mahinda Thero, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, together with the Sri Lankan community, celebrations were held on 26 June 2026 at the Embassy premises.

 

The uposatha seela program was conducted for Buddhist devotees by Ven. Pepiliyane Aryadeva Rathana Thero at the Embassy premises followed by Dhamma discussion, meditation, and almsgiving. In the evening, the program commenced with the Buddha Pooja, followed by a Dharma sermon with the spiritual guidance of Ven. Pepiliyane Aryadeva Rathana Thero.

 

Conducting the Dhamma sermon, Ven. Pepiliyane Aryadeva Rathana Thero, highlighted the importance of Poson Poya, the day the noble philosophy of life, Buddhism, was bestowed to/upon the nation by Arahat Maha Mahinda Thero. The importance of understanding the teachings of Buddhism and adhering to them at all times was deeply emphasized. At the end of the sermon, the Thero invoked blessings upon all the participants, leaders of Jordan as well as Sri Lanka, and its people. 

 

The colorful decorations with lanterns, Buddhist flags, and buntings at the Embassy premises enhanced the glory of the event. 

 

The visitors were also offered varieties of local food at the Dansala programs organized by the Sri Lankan community. The Poson celebrations were attended by a large number of Sri Lankans and foreign nationals.
