For the second consecutive year, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Belgium, with the support of the Sri Lanka Tea Board, participated in the Brussels Tea Festival 2026, held on 27 September 2026 at Flagey, Place Sainte-Croix in central Brussels. The one-day event attracted over 700 tea enthusiasts, media representatives and tea industry professionals from across Europe.

A key highlight of Sri Lanka’s participation was a dedicated Ceylon tea presentation and demonstration held at the festival’s special hall. Sri Lanka presented its seven regional black teas, highlighting the differences in flavour and character resulting from the country’s diverse tea-growing regions. A certified tea master, owner of Kruze Tea Belgium, international speaker, board member of the European Specialty Tea Association, and Regional Director for Europe at the International Tea Masters Association, Stijn Van Schoonlandt, conducted the presentation and a Ceylon tea tasting session.

Ceylon black teas from high, medium and low-grown regions were brewed and presented during an interactive tasting session, allowing participants to identify and appreciate the distinct flavour profiles and characteristics of each tea.

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Belgium, Chandana Weerasena, and the Minister (Commercial) at the Embassy, Thavishya Mullegamgoda, also attended the presentation. During the question-and-answer session that followed, participants showed particular interest in Sri Lanka’s tea culture and production, diversity of flavours, sustainable practices, and opportunities to visit tea-growing regions and tea trails in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka’s presence at the Brussels Tea Festival this year featured a range of Ceylon teas represented by Basilur Tea Exports (Pvt) Ltd, Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company PLC, Empire Teas (Pvt) Ltd, Bogawanthalawa Ceylon Tea (Pvt) Ltd, Amba Estate, Kaley Tea Estate, Rosyth Artisan Teas and Glen Nevis Plantation (Pvt) Ltd, among others. Ceylon tea promotional banners and market brochures were also displayed.

Visitors showed interest in the origins and production of Ceylon tea, tea estates and factory visits, connecting with tea suppliers, and opportunities to experience the journey of Ceylon tea from plantation to cup.

Sri Lanka’s participation in the Brussels Tea Festival 2026 provided a platform to promote Ceylon tea and engage with European stakeholders, industry professionals and tea enthusiasts, while highlighting its internationally recognized quality, heritage and connection to Sri Lanka’s tea-growing regions.
