On 05 July 2026, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Amman, Gajithra Navan, held discussions with the Vice Chairman of the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce, Ahmed Salem Al-Kaswani to explore avenues for enhancing bilateral trade, investment, and tourism cooperation between Sri Lanka and Jordan. The Aqaba Chamber of Commerce, established in 1965, has approximately 6,000 members.
Chargé d’Affaires a.i. emphasized that fostering two-way trade and tourism cooperation between Sri Lanka and Jordan is one of Sri Lanka's key priorities in strengthening bilateral economic relations with Jordan, and she reaffirmed the Embassy's commitment to further strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.
Vice Chairman Al-Kaswani highlighted the important role played by the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce in promoting commercial activities and supporting the private sector in the Aqaba Governorate. He also briefed the delegation on Aqaba's strategic importance as Jordan's only seaport and its favourable investment climate, supported by modern infrastructure, special economic incentives, and its growing tourism sector.
Chargé d’Affaires a.i. invited the members of the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce to participate in Sri Lanka Expo 2027, scheduled to be held from 14 to 17 January 2027 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo. She highlighted the exhibition as one of Sri Lanka's premier international business events, providing an excellent platform for international buyers, investors, and exporters to establish new commercial partnerships.
Both sides agreed to organize joint economic activities and facilitate business engagements to further strengthen trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Jordan.
The meeting was attended by members of the Board of Directors of the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce.
