At the invitation of the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Kenya, Chiranjib Sarker, the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Kenya, Ruvini De Silva, joined a diplomatic visit to the manufacturing facility of Square Pharmaceuticals Kenya EPZ Ltd. at the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Athi River, Kenya, on 17 July 2026.

The diplomatic delegation comprised the Ambassadors of Indonesia, Somalia, and Thailand; the High Commissioners of Malaysia and Rwanda; and representatives of the Embassy of the Philippines in Kenya.

During the visit, the delegation toured the state-of-the-art pharmaceutical manufacturing plant and received a comprehensive briefing on the company's operations, manufacturing processes, quality assurance standards, and its contribution to the pharmaceutical sector in Kenya and the wider East African region. The visit provided an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into Kenya's growing pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities and the role of foreign investment in strengthening regional healthcare systems.

The delegation also held discussions with the management of Square Pharmaceuticals Kenya EPZ Ltd. on potential avenues for collaboration, including partnerships in pharmaceutical manufacturing, healthcare innovation, skills development, and regional market opportunities.

As part of the programme, the Acting High Commissioner joined fellow Heads of Mission and representatives of the diplomatic corps in a commemorative tree-planting ceremony at the facility, reaffirming the shared commitment of the diplomatic community and the private sector to environmental sustainability and climate action.

The visit underscored the importance of fostering stronger economic and industrial partnerships between Sri Lanka and Kenya while promoting collaboration in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.
