The Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Kenya, Ruvini De Silva attended the 11th Our Ocean Conference (OOC11) held in Mombasa, Kenya, from 16 to 18 June 2026. Convened under the theme of advancing sustainable ocean governance and the blue economy, the conference brought together Heads of State and Government, Ministers, senior officials, international organizations, scientists, civil society representatives, and private sector leaders to deliberate on pressing global ocean challenges and promote collective action for the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources.
The Opening Ceremony of the Conference was graced by Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, who underscored the importance of strengthening international partnerships and accelerating action to safeguard the world's oceans and marine ecosystems. The Closing Ceremony was presided over by President of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, who reaffirmed the need for sustained global cooperation and renewed commitments towards achieving ocean conservation and blue economy objectives.
On the sidelines of the Conference, the Acting High Commissioner also participated in the Commonwealth Ocean Ministers Roundtable held on 16 June 2026 at the PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort and Spa, Mombasa. The Roundtable, jointly hosted by the Government of Kenya and the Commonwealth Secretariat, focused on the implementation of the Apia Commonwealth Ocean Declaration and the role of the Agreement on Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement) and marine protected areas in achieving the global target of protecting 30 per cent of the ocean by 2030.
