In commemoration of National Integrity Week 2026, the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, led by the Consul General, virtually participated in the commemorative ceremony organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.

Following the recitation of the official National Integrity Pledge, the Consul General addressed the staff and emphasized the significance of integrity as a cornerstone of public service. He highlighted the responsibility of public officials to uphold the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, transparency, accountability, and impartiality in the discharge of their official duties.

The Consul General underscored that integrity is fundamental to ensuring efficient, transparent, and accountable public service delivery. He noted that honesty, responsibility, professionalism, and dedication to public service are essential for strengthening institutional credibility and maintaining public confidence in government institutions.

The Consul General further briefed the staff on the objectives of the Government’s “A Culture of Integrity - A Clean Sri Lanka” initiative and conducted comprehensive briefing sessions during both the morning and evening to explain how the programme should be implemented at the Consulate General. During these sessions, he emphasized the importance of embedding the ten national values into the daily operations of the Mission, with particular focus on professionalism, teamwork, accountability, transparency, and citizen-centred public service.

To ensure the effective implementation of the initiative, the staff were divided into dedicated working groups and assigned responsibility for implementing specific programmes under the ten national values. These groups will periodically review their progress and submit reports through the Consulate General to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism on the activities undertaken and the contribution made towards achieving the objectives of the national programme.

The Consul General informed the staff that the Consulate General has already commenced implementing several initiatives, particularly those aimed at improving the physical environment and overall standards of the Consulate. Considerable improvements have already been made to enhance the premises and create a more welcoming, efficient, and professional environment for members of the public. The attached photographs illustrate some of these improvements, which are intended to provide greater comfort and convenience to visitors while enhancing the quality of public service delivery.

He further stated that these initiatives will be progressively expanded to all aspects of the Consulate’s operations. As the Consulate General provides assistance to approximately 150 members of the public each day on a wide range of consular matters, every effort will be made to ensure that services are delivered in a friendly, courteous, efficient, and supportive manner. Particular emphasis was placed on maximizing the effective utilization of the Consulate’s human resources by fostering teamwork, mutual support, and continuous improvement.

In concluding the briefing sessions, the Consul General reiterated that the success of the initiative depends on cultivating a culture in which officers are not merely active or reactive, but proactive in anticipating challenges, identifying opportunities for improvement, and delivering innovative solutions. He emphasized that a proactive, team-oriented approach would strengthen institutional integrity, enhance public service delivery, and contribute meaningfully towards achieving the objectives of the Government’s “A Culture of Integrity - A Clean Sri Lanka” programme.
