The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva conducted a Consular Mobile Service in Bern, Switzerland, on 29 and 30 August 2026, with the assistance of Sri Lankan community organisations in Bern.

Inaugurating the Consular Mobile Service on 29 August 2026, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN in Geneva, Sumith Dassanayake stated that the Government of Sri Lanka was keen to address matters concerning Sri Lankans living abroad, including consular concerns. Accordingly, the Permanent Mission conducted its second Consular Mobile Service in Bern under the guidance of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath.

During the Mobile Service, the Mission provided a range of consular services, including the acceptance of passport and dual citizenship applications, registration of births, issuance of birth, marriage and death certificates retrieved from e-BMD, and attestation of civil status documents and affidavits.

Parallel to the Mobile Consular Service, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN in Geneva Sumith Dassanayake held constructive meetings with Sri Lankan community associations. The Permanent Representative also visited Zentrum für Buddhismus, the Buddhist Temple and Ganalingeshwarar Temple in Bern.
