SAARC Ambassadors Club in Myanmar

At a meeting, convened on 13th August 2009 by Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr. Newton Gunaratna at the Ambassador’s Residence, SAARC Ambassador’s Club was inaugurated in keeping with the SAARC tradition. At a meeting, convened on 13th August 2009 by Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr. Newton Gunaratna at the Ambassador’s Residence, SAARC Ambassador’s Club was inaugurated in keeping with the SAARC tradition.

It has been the practice that the Ambassador/ High Commissioners of the SAARC Chair convene the SAARC Ambassador’s Club in their respective countries of accreditation. In keeping with the tradition and on the instructions of Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, Sri Lankan Ambassador has taken the initiative and formulated the Ambassador’s Club in Myanmar.

Addressing the Ambassadors, Mr. Gunaratna briefed them on the progress made by SAARC Secretariat after Sri Lanka assumed the Chair at the 15th SAARC Summit held in Sri Lanka last year and also proposed an action plan. Accordingly, measures will be taken to organize a “Film Festival of SAARC Countries” and “Art and Handicraft Exhibition” in the near future after consultation with the home countries of the Ambassadors.
