Consulate General of Sri Lanka celebrates Deepavali with the Sri Lankan Community in Sydney

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Sydney conducted a special Hindu religious observance at the Sydney Murugan Temple on 06 November 2018 to celebrate Deepavali, the festival of lights.

A cross section of expatriate Sri Lankans from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds were present at the special Snapana Abishekan Pooja conducted with Nine Kumbam for Lord Murugan to invoke blessings on the Government and the People of Sri Lanka on the occasion of Deepavali Festival.

Consul General Lal Wickrematunge, Consuls A Raheem, P Manusinghe and staff of the Consulate General together with the invitees took part in the pooja. The attendant gathering was offered prasatham (blessed food) and traditional Sri Lankan Tamil Cuisine facilitated by the Saiva Manram of the Murugan Temple. The event was sponsored by Westpac Bank, coordinated by Mr Thayanandan Ponniah.
