The families of deceased migrant workers in the Middle East received compensation and other redress at an event hosted by External Affairs Deputy Minister Neomal Perera yesterday. Twenty three families received Rs. 9.2 million from External Affairs Deputy Minister Neomal Perera.
These payments were secured in consultation with the authorities in the destination countries by the Sri Lanka Mission in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Jordan.
The External Affairs Ministry together with the relevant Missions in the Middle East released nearly Rs. 193 million as compensation, salary dues and other redress during the past 11 months in 2014.
