71st Anniversary of National Day of Sri Lanka Celebrated in Nepal

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Nepal celebrated the 71st Anniversary of the National Day of Sri Lanka on 04 February 2019 at the Embassy Premises.

The programme commenced with hoisting of the National Flag by Ambassador, Swarna Perera in the presence of members of Sri Lankan community and well-wishers. Thereafter the National Anthem was sung in Sinhala and Tamil languages. Two minute silence was observed in honour of all the National heroes who had sacrificed their lives for the motherland, followed by lighting of the ceremonial oil lamp.

Multi religious observances were conducted by four religious dignitaries representing Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Islamic faiths. The National Day messages of His Excellency, the President, Hon. Prime Minister and Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs were read in Sinhala, Tamil & English Languages.

Addressing the gathering Ambassador Swarna Perera highlighted the importance of the event and reminded of the sacrifices made by national heroes in safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and stressed the importance of unity among Sri Lankans to protect the independence gained.

An alms giving (Dhana) was also organized at the Official Residence on 4 February and 17 members of Mahasanga were present at the event.

The refreshments were served to the participants at the end of the programme.
