Sri Lanka and Bahrain Explore Deepening Trade Ties

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Bahrain Shanika Dissanayake met with Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nabeel Kanoo at the Chamber headquarters recently to explore opportunities for Sri Lanka’s trade and investment with Bahrain. The discussions focused on current trade and investment flows from Bahrain to Sri Lanka and strategies to expand Sri Lankan exports into the Bahraini market.

During the meeting Ambassador Dissanayake briefed Chairman Kanoo and Members of the Board on the upcoming Sri Lanka Expo scheduled to take place in Colombo from 14 to 17 January 2027. She extended an invitation for a business delegation to participate in the Expo next year. The Ambassador also briefed on the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to promote Sri Lanka’s value-added export industries and invited the Chamber to explore these opportunities.

Both sides emphasized the importance of direct air connectivity which enhances trade, tourism and people to people contacts and agreed to foster more business-to-business linkages.

Established in 1910, the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry is Bahrain’s premier business Chamber and has played a pivotal role in shaping Bahrain’s national economy.  The Chamber also shares a partnership with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce having signed a MoU in 2007.
