Africa Division

Sri Lanka’s Diplomatic Relations with Africa

Currently Sri Lanka has formal Diplomatic relations with 37 African countries.

Sri Lanka established Diplomatic Relations with Rwanda, Republic of Congo and Mali on 20th April 2011, 01st Feb. 2012 and 19th January 2012 respectively.

 

On 04th July, 2012, the Cabinet of Ministers granted approval for the Establishment of DPL relations with 15 African Countries namely Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Sierra Leone, Togo. Formal DPL relations established with Mauritania on 21st Dec. 2012 and Burkina Faso on 15th Nov. 2012.

 

Sri Lanka has four Resident Missions in Africa. Namely Egypt, Kenya , South Africa and Libya (temporally closed)

 

There are four (04) Resident Missions from the African Region. Namely, Egypt, Libya, South Africa and Nigeria in Colombo

 

Following countries look after their interests from their mission in India (New Delhi): Ethiopia, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Morocco, Senegal, Seychelles, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Algeria, Sudan, Tunisia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Ghana, Nigeria and Mali. Swaziland, Guinea are concurrently accredited to Sri Lanka from their respective missions in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur). Benin looks after their interests in Sri Lanka from China (Beijing).

 

Following countries have Honorary Consular Representations in Colombo: Ethiopia, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Zambia, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, Benin, Guinea Bissau, and Liberia.

 

This Division is currently headed by Actg. Director General Mr. Sumith Dasanayake
