The Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Eranga Weeraratne, represented Sri Lanka at Asia Tech x Singapore (ATxSG) 2026, held from 19 to 21 May 2026 at Capella Singapore. During the visit, the Deputy Minister engaged with senior government representatives, technology leaders, academic experts, and members of the Sri Lankan professional community in Singapore to strengthen cooperation in digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), fintech, cybersecurity, innovation, and AI adoption.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister had brief interactions with President of the Republic of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Digital Development and Information of Singapore, Josephine Teo, and Minister of State at the Ministry of Digital Development and Information of Singapore, Rahayu Mahzam, where discussions focused on digital transformation, AI governance, digital public infrastructure, and technology-driven economic growth.
A bilateral meeting was also held between the Deputy Minister of Digital Economy of Sri Lanka and the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of Vietnam, Bui Hoang Phuong, focusing on three key areas of cooperation: cyber security engagement, data and digital economy collaboration, and strengthening bilateral technology partnerships. During the meeting, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister extended an invitation to the Sri Lankan counterpart to undertake an official visit to Vietnam to further advance bilateral digital economy cooperation.
Further discussions were held with representatives from Adaptation AI, Google, and the Gates Foundation on AI adoption, digital inclusion, innovation, and technology-driven development.
Key highlights of the visit included discussions with Singapore Cooperation Enterprise, officials from AI Singapore, and Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN). The discussions focused on outcome-oriented programmes aimed at youth digital empowerment, public-sector digital capability development, AI adoption, and strengthening the innovation ecosystem across Sri Lanka.
The Deputy Minister also engaged with members of the Sri Lankan professional and technology community in Singapore at the High Commission of Sri Lanka, who expressed interest in supporting Sri Lanka’s digital economy initiatives through knowledge sharing, mentorship, skills transfer, and collaborative projects.
The Deputy Minister Weeraratne was accompanied by High Commissioner Senarath Dissanayake, Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer (Actg) of GovTech Sri Lanka, Sanjaya Karunasena, Minister Counsellor (Commercial) of the High Commission, Bhagya Abeykoon, and Counsellor of the High Commission, Nuwandi Jayasuriya during his official engagements.
Sri Lanka’s participation at ATxSG 2026 provided a valuable platform to strengthen international partnerships, promote AI adoption and digital innovation, and enhance Sri Lanka’s presence within the regional digital economy landscape.
