The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore commemorated Vesak 2026 with a Dhamma Sermon and an alms-giving on Saturday, 16 May 2026, at the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple.

Dahawal Dana alms were offered to the resident monks of Sri Lankaramaya Viharaya, followed by a Dhamma Sermon in the evening.

The Dhamma Sermon was delivered by Ven. D. Gnanarathana Thero, a resident monk at the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple, under the spiritual guidance of the Chief Incumbent of the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple, Ven. K. Rathanananda Nayaka Thero.

Delivering the sermon, Ven. Gnanarathana Thero highlighted the fundamental teachings of Buddhism, namely the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path, and emphasized the importance of shaping one's life accordingly. At the conclusion of the sermon, blessings were invoked on the Government and the people of Sri Lanka, the High Commissioner, the staff of the High Commission, and the attendees.

The occasion also paid tribute to the late former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Lakshman Kadirgamar, who was instrumental in the recognition of Vesak as a day of international observance at the United Nations.

The event was attended by members of the Sri Lankan expatriate community, representatives of the Singapore Sinhala Buddhist Association, the High Commissioner, the staff of the High Commission, and devotees. Light refreshments were served after the sermon.

To mark Vesak Week, the High Commission premises were adorned with Buddhist flags, colourful Vesak lanterns, and decorations, creating a vibrant Vesak atmosphere.
