Sri Lankan Embassy in Cairo holds discussions with Fayoum Chamber of Commerce on enhancing trade and investment cooperation

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Egypt, Sisira Senavirathne, met with the Chairman of the Fayoum Chamber of Commerce, Magdy Taha Gaballah, and members of the Board of Directors on 22 April 2026 at the Chamber premises in Fayoum to discuss ways to strengthen trade and investment relations through closer engagement between the business communities of Sri Lanka and Egypt.

The discussions focused on establishing partnerships among businesses and investors affiliated with the Chamber in sectors including trade, tourism, industry, and agro-processing.

The Ambassador briefed the Chamber representatives on investment opportunities and the business environment in Sri Lanka, as well as prospects for enhancing bilateral trade. He invited members of the Fayoum Chamber to explore opportunities for trade and investment in Sri Lanka and provided an overview of Sri Lanka Expo 2026, inviting the Chamber to participate in the event as a platform to showcase products from the Fayoum Governorate.

The Chairman of the Fayoum Chamber expressed interest in promoting stronger trade engagement between the business communities of the two countries through enhanced cooperation between the Fayoum Chamber and Sri Lankan trade chambers. The Chamber also conveyed interest in developing partnerships in agro-processing, including medicinal and aromatic plants, as well as in the textile sector, highlighting the Governorate’s reputation for high-quality raw materials, particularly Egyptian cotton.

The Chairman proposed the exchange of trade delegations and the organization of trade exhibitions in both countries, while inviting Sri Lankan investors to explore investment opportunities in Fayoum Governorate. Both sides agreed to explore new avenues for trade and investment cooperation through closer collaboration between the respective chambers.

The meeting was attended by the First Vice Chairman of the Fayoum Chamber of Commerce, Abdel Mohsen Mostafa; the Secretary General, Mahmoud Khairy; the Assistant Treasurer, Ezzat Aziz; Board Members Mohsen Rabie and Mina Kamel; and the General Manager, Sameh Abdel Aziz Shokr. The Ambassador was accompanied by the Second Secretary of the Embassy, Darshika Dasanayake, and the Trade Assistant of the Mission.
