The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Ottawa, together with the Sri Lankan community, participated in the 2026 Y Embassy Chef Showcase organized by the YMCA of the National Capital Region on 15 April 2026 at Lansdowne Park, Ottawa, in support of the YMCA’s community programmes and charitable initiatives.
Sri Lanka’s participation was organized by the High Commission in close collaboration with members of the Sri Lankan community in Ottawa, reflecting the strong partnership between the Mission and the Sri Lankan diaspora in Canada. The joint participation served as a symbol of unity, cultural pride, and community engagement.
The Sri Lankan pavilion attracted significant interest from visitors through the presentation of authentic Sri Lankan food and beverages, including milk rice, seeni sambal, chicken kottu, pol roti with lunumiris, wade, murukku, cake, biscuits, and other traditional delicacies. Guests also enjoyed distinctive Sri Lankan beverages such as Ginger Beer and Ceylon Tea.
The pavilion also featured tourism promotional material and cultural displays highlighting Sri Lanka’s natural beauty, heritage, and hospitality, providing visitors with an insight into the country’s tourism appeal.
Adding further cultural vibrancy to the event, members of the Sri Lankan community presented a traditional Kandyan dance performance, which was well received by the audience and contributed to the multicultural atmosphere of the showcase.
The organizers and attendees expressed appreciation for Sri Lanka’s presentation and the collaborative spirit demonstrated by the High Commission and the Sri Lankan community.
The active support of the Sri Lankan community contributed significantly to the successful representation of Sri Lanka at the event and further strengthened the close ties and continued cooperation between the High Commission and the community in Ottawa.
