Sri Lanka Singapore Innovation and Technology Council presents proposals for Sri Lanka’s Digital Agenda

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore organised a networking session with members of the Sri Lanka Singapore Innovation and Technology Council (SSITC) on 20 May 2026 in conjunction with the visit of the Deputy Minister of Digital Economy of Sri Lanka, Eranga Weeraratne, who was attending the Asia Tech x Singapore (ATxSG) 2026.

Welcoming the participants, the High Commissioner Senarath Dissnayake, highlighted the potential for growing cooperation between the two countries in the fields of the digital economy, innovation, and artificial intelligence. The High Commissioner specially recalled the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Artificial Intelligence Cooperation between Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Digital Economy and AI Singapore in July 2025. The High Commissioner also noted the establishment of the Sri Lanka Singapore Innovation and Technology Council as an important milestone in strengthening linkages between the technology ecosystems of the two countries and briefed participants on initiatives undertaken by the High Commission to facilitate engagement between technology stakeholders in Sri Lanka and Singapore.

The President of the Sri Lanka Singapore Innovation and Technology Council (SSITC), Mahesh Kavinda, and the Secretary of the SSITC, Geeshan Wijenayake in their presentation outlined the Council’s vision and a series of proposals to support Sri Lanka’s digital transformation agenda. The proposals focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas, including cybersecurity, data centre development, and capacity building.

Minister Eranga Weeraratne engaged in an interactive discussion with Council members on the proposals presented and shared the Government’s priorities for advancing Sri Lanka’s digital economy. Participants exchanged views on opportunities to leverage expertise, technology, and partnerships to support Sri Lanka’s digital transformation and innovation ecosystem.

The event provided a valuable platform for dialogue and networking among Council members, representatives of Singapore’s technology community, and the visiting Sri Lankan delegation. The discussions reaffirmed the shared commitment to fostering innovation-driven partnerships and strengthening cooperation in emerging technology sectors between Sri Lanka and Singapore.

The event was attended by members of the SSITC, representatives of Singapore’s technology sector, officials of the Ministry of Digital Economy of Sri Lanka, and the staff of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore.
