Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka, Dayani Mendis delivered the National Statement at the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria, on 16 September 2026.

Ambassador Mendis noted Sri Lanka’s membership of the IAEA since its establishment in 1957 and the longstanding partnership with the Agency.

She also expressed Sri Lanka’s appreciation for the support provided under the Technical Cooperation Programme in areas including nuclear medicine, health, food and agriculture, which contributed significantly to national development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The statement reiterated Sri Lanka’s firm commitment to the principles of Atoms for Peace and Development and the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology.

Sri Lanka’s hosting of several regional capacity-building meetings over the past two years, demonstrating its commitment to strengthening regional capabilities in nuclear science and technology, was also highlighted.
