In line with its economic diplomacy mandate, the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai, in coordination with the National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA), facilitated the visit of an eight-member business delegation from the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) to Sri Lanka to participate in the Gems City Ratnapura Exhibition 2026, held from 31 August to 2 September 2026 at the Grand Silver Ray Hotel in Ratnapura.

Comprising senior business representatives and commercial buyers, the delegation included senior executive representation from SGCCI, the Vice President of the Surat Diamond Association and the Convener of the CARATS Surat Diamond Expo. During the visit, the delegation sought to establish trade connections and explore long-term partnerships with Sri Lankan gem and jewellery industry counterparts.

In addition to facilitating participation in the exhibition, the Consulate General arranged a comprehensive programme to maximise commercial and investment outcomes. The delegates engaged in targeted interactions and B2B networking sessions with key trade and business institutions, including the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI), the Export Development Board (EDB) and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, to explore foreign direct investment opportunities, strengthen bilateral supply chains and establish direct links with Sri Lankan exporters.

The initiative underscored the continued efforts of the Consulate General to advance economic diplomacy, strengthen commercial ties between Sri Lanka and India, and promote Sri Lanka’s world-renowned gem and jewellery sector internationally.
