The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Lebanon celebrated International Tea Day 2026 with a special reception held at the Embassy premises in Hazmieh, Beirut, on 21 May 2026, under the patronage of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Lebanon, H.E. Mr. Anura Withanage.
The event brought together a distinguished gathering of representatives from the Lebanese business community, media, social and cultural sectors, providing an important platform to promote Ceylon Tea, Sri Lanka’s rich tea heritage, and broader trade and tourism opportunities.
In his keynote address, Ambassador Withanage highlighted the global prestige of Ceylon Tea as one of the world’s most renowned beverages and emphasized Sri Lanka’s longstanding leadership in the global tea industry as the world’s largest exporter of orthodox black tea.
The Ambassador underscored Sri Lanka’s rich tea heritage dating back to 1867, the distinct characteristics of the country’s seven tea-growing regions, and Sri Lanka’s global recognition as the producer of the world’s first Ozone Friendly Tea. He also highlighted the significance of the Lion Logo as the internationally recognized symbol of authenticity and quality for 100% Pure Ceylon Tea.
The programme included a presentation on Sri Lanka’s tea industry, screening of promotional videos, a premium tasting session featuring teas from Sri Lanka’s seven tea-growing regions, and an exhibition of high-quality Sri Lankan tea products.
The event generated excellent engagement among attendees and served as an effective platform to strengthen awareness of Sri Lanka’s tea industry, cultural heritage, and export potential in Lebanon.
