The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Rome commemorated the Vesak Festival on 27 May 2026 with a special Dhamma Sermon conducted by Venerable Vineetha Tissa Thero, Chief Incumbent of Sri Bodhi Viharaya in Rome and Venerable Mettānanda Thero from Italy.

The programme, held at the Embassy premises in the morning, brought together members of the Sri Lankan community and well-wishers to observe Vesak in a spiritual and reflective atmosphere.

Following the religious programme, the Embassy facilitated consular services, providing community members in attendance with convenient access to these essential services.

After the Alms Giving for the Priests, the Embassy held a Dansala for members of the Sri Lanka community, with the generous support of Sajeewa Silva of Super Stella Restaurant in Rome. Ambassador Satya Rodrigo and staff of the Embassy handed out food parcels and refreshments to participants, well-wishers and those that had come to the Embassy consular section for services.

As part of the celebrations, the Embassy also organized a Vesak lantern-making activity for children that had accompanied parents visiting the consular section and other well-wishers. This initiative allowed young participants to engage in traditional customs and experience the cultural significance of the festival. Volunteers also attended the event to assist staff of the Embassy. The Ambassador and the staff engaged with children in making Vesak lanterns.

The Embassy expresses its appreciation to the Sri Lankan community for their participation and reaffirms its commitment to promoting Sri Lankan religious and cultural traditions in Italy.
