The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Kingdom of Bahrain celebrated Vesak at the Embassy premises on 31 May 2026 with a programme reflecting the values of compassion, generosity, wisdom, and mindfulness embodied in the teachings of the Buddha.

The event commenced with the offering of flowers and gilanpasa to the Buddha, followed by religious observances attended by members of the Sri Lankan community and Embassy staff.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Shanika Dissanayake, highlighted the profound significance of Vesak, which commemorates the Birth, Enlightenment, and Passing Away of the Buddha. The Ambassador underscored the enduring relevance of the Buddha’s teachings in promoting peace, harmony, tolerance, and understanding among people of all backgrounds.

The programme also featured a pre-recorded Dhamma sermon delivered by Venerable Tissamaharamaye Sasanawansalankara Thero, who encouraged the practice of compassion, wisdom, and mindfulness in daily life.

As part of the Vesak celebrations, the Embassy also organized a Soup Dansala, symbolizing the spirit of selfless giving and sharing that is central to Vesak observances.

In a separate engagement marking the Vesak season, the Ambassador, together with Embassy staff, participated in the opening ceremony of the Vesak Pandal organized by Riffa Ape Pansala at the invitation of Sumith Gunasekara. The colourful Vesak Pandal, depicting stories from the life of the Buddha, attracted devotees and visitors from across the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain.
