
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Lebanon, in partnership with the Lions Clubs and the Lions Charity Center, successfully convened a Medical Day for Sri Lankan migrant workers on 27 September 2026 at the Lions Charity Center in Sin El Fil, Lebanon.
The initiative was organised under the leadership of Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Lebanon, Anura Withanage, in consultation with the Lions leadership, as part of the Embassy’s continued commitment to the health and welfare of Sri Lankan migrant workers in Lebanon. Embassy staff also contributed to the coordination and facilitation of the event.
The programme was funded by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, in support of the welfare and wellbeing of Sri Lankan migrant workers in Lebanon.
Nearly 200 Sri Lankan migrant workers benefited from a range of complimentary medical services, including dental and ENT examinations, hearing tests, including audiograms and tympanograms, vision tests, diabetes screening and HbA1c testing, mammography and echocardiography. Eyeglasses were also provided to participants who required them.
The Medical Day provided members of the Sri Lankan migrant community with an opportunity to access preventive healthcare, medical screening and professional medical advice. Meals, refreshments and Ceylon Tea were also served to participants.
Participating workers conveyed their sincere appreciation to the Lions Clubs and the Embassy of Sri Lanka for organising the initiative and facilitating access to essential healthcare services.
Ambassador Withanage extended his gratitude to Governor Elias Antonios, 2nd Vice District Governor Johny Abdallah, Past District Governors, participating Lions Clubs and their members, the Chairperson and members of the Clinics Committee, doctors, clinic supervisors and volunteers, and the Chairperson and team of the Lions Charity Center for their generous support and humanitarian service.
The Ambassador also expressed his appreciation to the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment for funding the initiative and supporting the Embassy’s efforts to provide essential welfare and healthcare services to Sri Lankan migrant workers in Lebanon.
He further thanked the staff of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beirut for their commitment and diligence in coordinating the programme and assisting members of the Sri Lankan community throughout the Medical Day.
The successful conduct of the programme reflected the close cooperation between the Embassy of Sri Lanka and the Lions community in Lebanon and demonstrated their shared commitment to humanitarian service and community wellbeing.
The initiative formed part of Ambassador Withanage’s continuing efforts to promote the welfare, health and wellbeing of Sri Lankan migrant workers in Lebanon, while fostering partnerships with Lebanese humanitarian, medical and community organisations.
