Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Dr. Ganesanathan Geathiswaran pays a courtesy call on Governor of Karnataka

The Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Chennai, Dr. Ganesanathan Geathiswaran, paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, in Bengaluru on 9 June 2026.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on further strengthening the longstanding cultural, educational, and developmental ties between Sri Lanka and the State of Karnataka.

During the discussions, the Deputy High Commissioner highlighted the potential for enhanced collaboration in the areas of heritage tourism, agriculture, and education. Recalling the Governor’s interest in the Ramayana Trail, discussions focused on promoting cultural and spiritual tourism through greater connectivity between heritage sites in Karnataka and Sri Lanka.

The Deputy High Commissioner also noted the ongoing cooperation under the Sri Lanka–India Joint Working Group on Agriculture and explored opportunities for collaboration in sustainable and natural farming practices. He further expressed appreciation for India’s continued support towards Sri Lanka’s educational development and discussed prospects for teacher training and academic exchanges.

The Deputy High Commissioner extended a cordial invitation to the Governor to visit Sri Lanka.
