The Certificate Conferment Ceremony of the Overseas Dhammaduta Bhikkhus Training Programme Class 32, Dhammaduta Certificate Programme Class 3, and Vipassana Meditation Certificate Programme (International Programme) Class 2 was held on 4 June 2026 at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, in Thailand. During the ceremony, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe was honoured with the Distinguished Dhamma Award in recognition of her contribution and support towards the promotion of Buddhist relations and cooperation.
The ceremony was presided over by Member of the Supreme Sangha Council and Chief Abbot of the Eastern Region, His Holiness Somdej Phra Phutthacharn (Snit Chuanpanyo) acting on behalf of the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, His Holiness Somdej Phra Ariyavongsakhatayan.
The ceremony also included the conferment of certificates and awards upon distinguished recipients in recognition of their contributions towards the promotion of Buddhist teachings, Dhamma propagation, and the strengthening of Buddhist cooperation internationally. The programme featured the offering of robes and requisites to trained Dhammaduta Bhikkhus, the conferment of certificates and diplomas to graduates, chanting of auspicious verses, and remarks by His Holiness the presiding Venerable.
The recognition bestowed upon the Ambassador reflects the longstanding and close Buddhist ties between Sri Lanka and Thailand, rooted in centuries of shared Theravada Buddhist heritage, religious exchanges, and cultural connections between the two nations. The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok continues to actively promote and strengthen these historic bonds through religious, cultural, and people-to-people engagements.
