Ambassador Sashikala Premawardhane Presents Credentials to the President of Indonesia

The Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Indonesia Sashikala Premawardhane, presented her Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto at the Istana Merdeka, the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on 8 June 2026. The ceremony included a Guard of Honour, the formal presentation of credentials, and a group courtesy call on the President of Indonesia. 

Ambassador Premawardhane conveyed the warm greetings of the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Disanayaka, and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations with Indonesia. She also expressed her intention to explore new avenues of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in view of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Indonesia, which will be commemorated in August 2027.

President Subianto extended his best wishes to Ambassador Premawardhane for a successful tenure as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Indonesia and expressed confidence in the continued growth of relations between the two countries. 

A career diplomat with over 28 years of experience, Ambassador Premawardhane has held a number of senior positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka and at Sri Lanka Missions overseas.

Prior to her appointment in Jakarta, she served as Additional Secretary (Bilateral Political Affairs – East) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism in Colombo. She also served as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Singapore from June 2019 to September 2023 and is a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service. 

Ambassador Premawardhane holds a Master’s Degree in Conflict and Peace Studies from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Pune, India. She is a past pupil of Bishop’s College, Colombo.
