The East Asia and the Pacific Division deals with matters pertaining to bilateral relations with 30 countries in the region, which are broadly categorized into three areas: China, Japan and the Republic of Korea; ASEAN countries; and Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific countries.
The Division is assigned with the task of keeping track of geo-political and socio-economic developments in the region. It also directs Sri Lanka’s foreign policy with these countries in the political, economic, security, education and social spheres. Technical cooperation and development assistance, investment relations, tourism and cultural promotion through bilateral, regional and multilateral engagements are part of the responsibilities of the Division.
Sri Lanka has established 11 resident Missions and 4 Consulates in the region.
